Killington Resort Open till May

Ten trails on line this weekend as 24th Annual Pond Skimming takes center stage Saturday at noon

With more than eight feet of natural and manmade snow covering the Superstar Trail, Killington Resort is poised to roll into May with fantastic spring skiing and riding conditions.

“Despite the recent warm weather we’re still in great shape,” said Dave Lacombe, snow surfaces manager for Killington Resort. “We always anticipate challenging spring weather conditions and that is why we made so much snow on Superstar back in February and March. Unless Mother Nature throws us a big curve ball, we will have top-to-bottom coverage on Superstar through our scheduled closing day on May 15.”

For this weekend, Killington will open the Superstar Express quad chair at 8 a.m., serving 10 runs, including Superstar, Skyelark and Bittersweet.

A new terrain park on Upper Bittersweet is open with seven rail and box features and two hits.

“We stockpiled a lot of snow this winter, especially at the top and bottom areas of the Superstar lift, and our mountain operations crew is working hard every night to ensure a quality product,” Lacombe said.

On Saturday, Killington will host its 24th Annual Pond Skimming Contest at the bottom of Superstar at noon. Registration opens at 9 a.m. at the K-1 Lodge. Other upcoming events include the 44th Annual May First Fun Slalom and the Killington Rage Weekend May 14-15, featuring the 15th Annual Killington Triathlon and the Killington Klimb.

The Killington Golf Course is tentatively scheduled to open May 7. The 6,186-yard, par-72 course also features a golf training facility that includes a 12,000-square-foot practice putting green and 15-station driving range. In addition, there are pitching and chipping areas, practice sand bunkers and a video review center. Visit www.killingtongolf.com for the latest updates on opening.

Killington Resort and Pico Mountain offer the largest ski and snowboard terrain in eastern North America with 200 trails and 33 lifts servicing 1,209 skiable acres and a vertical drop of 3,050 feet. Killington and Pico are proud to be a part of the American Skiing Company family of resorts, which also includes Sunday River and Sugarloaf/USA in Maine, Mount Snow in Vermont, Attitash in New Hampshire, Steamboat in Colorado, and The Canyons in Utah.
